The organization enpowered by Latvian law with qualifying and supervising sworn attorneys in Latvia. Currently there are over 500 sworn attorneys in Latvia. Filip Klavins and Raymond Slaidins became sworn attorneys in 1992 and are among the very few foreign trained and licensed lawyers who are admitted to the Latvian Sworn Attorneys Collegium; Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN is proud of the fact that nine of our lawyers are either sworn attorneys or sworn attorneys assistants. We annually contribute to the Collegium’s pension fund for retired attorneys.

Partners of the law firm Filips Klavins, Daiga Zivtina, Ilga Gudrenika-Krebs, as well as the sworn attorney Elina Girne-Berzina cooperate and frequently provide assistance at the Legal Practice and Support Centre of the University of Latvia. Daiga Zivtina regularly supervises the work of legal students assisting indigent people in the Legal Practice and Support Centre of the University of Latvia.

Assistant Sworn Attorney Annija Svemberga does lecturing and leads seminars in the Faculty of Law for the students of the 2nd year students in the study program “Property Rights” and for MA students in the study program “Problems of Exercising of the Ownership Title”.  Other Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN lawyers act as guest lecturers on topics such as legal ethics.

The Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL), founded on 18 March 1998 and accredited in 2000, offers a full-time study program which conforms to Western educational standards and leads to an accredited master's degree (LL.M) in International and European Law. In addition, RGSL has a doctorate program in cooperation with several Swedish universities and also provides continuing education programs for practising lawyers. Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN has always been very supportive of the RGSL and we continue our active involvement with regular guest lectures on legal ethics and the practice of law.

This Center was established to provide continuing education and training for Latvian judges. The goal of the Training Center for Judges is to raise the professional qualifications and ethical standards of judges and other court officers, thereby ensuring an independent and fair judiciary in Latvia. Liga Hartmane of our office has lectured on legal theory at the Center. 

The Latvian Institute (LI) was created by the Latvian Government in 1998 to provide information to the global community about Latvia and its people. The goal of the LI is to help the globalised world community better understand Latvia today by providing essential and useful information on all aspects of Latvia's history, culture and society. LI works directly with international journalists, editors, researchers and others who have a professional interest in Latvia. Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN has provided legal support to the LI and continues to do so on a pro-bono basis.

Raymond Slaidins has served three terms as President of the American Chamber of Commerce and has been a member of the Board in 1995-2008.  Filip Klavins served on the first Board of Directors. In March 2008, the lawyer Ivars Slokenbergs was elected to the Board of Directors.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Latvia was established in March, 1993 by 27 American investors. Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN was a part of this founding group.  This was the second Chamber founded in the former Soviet Union, after only Ukraine’s chapter. The American Chamber of Commerce in Latvia has grown substantially and now represents 140 companies and individuals who have invested approximately $500 million and have created over 4,100 local jobs. Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN continues its active work with the Chamber by providing for all its legal requirements on a pro-bono basis.

In March 1996 the British Chamber of Commerce in Latvia was officially established, offering a full range of services to members and other companies in Latvia and UK. Egons Pikelis of our office was a member of the Board of Directors for a number of years. The Chamber maintains a close working relationship with the British Embassy and other Chambers of Commerce in Riga, the Department of Trade and Industry and Trade Partners UK in the UK, Latvian Development Agency and is a member of the Council of British Chambers in Continental Europe.

The Foreign Investors’ Council in Latvia (FICIL) is a forum uniting the largest companies from various countries and industries that have made significant investments in Latvia, as well as the American, British, Danish and Swedish Chambers of Commerce in Latvia, and the German – Latvian Enterprise Association.

FICIL’s mission is to improve the business environment in Latvia by an active dialogue with the government.

Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN is involved in FICIL through its Real Estate Committee, where our firm is facilitator of the committee’s meetings.     

Filip Klavins serves on the administrative Board of this arbitration, and several Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN lawyers act as arbitrators of disputes referred to this institution.

One of Latvia’s most important museums of contemporary history, the Latvian Occupation Museum building is a controversial landmark itself. Egons Pikelis of our office has been actively involved in the development of this museum and has served as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board for a period of two years. Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN has provided legal advice for the museum during this period of time on a pro bono basis.

The Foundation helps to support our prestigious National Opera through fundraising and other activities.  Filip Klavins has served on the Board of the Latvian National Opera Foundation for a number of years.

The New Riga Theater is the leader in theater arts in Latvia and is a frequent participant in international festivals. Filip Klavins is one of the founders of the New Riga Theatre Association and currently serves as a member of the Board.

Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN has provided pro-bono legal services necessary to satisfy the school’s corporate requirements, and we prepared the lease agreement which allowed the school to move into its renovated building in Kipsala and expand these premises as the popularity of the school has grown. 

The main goal of the Association is to provide versatile support and assistance to its member organisations to ensure their ability to professionally deal with street children issues, promote protection of street children's rights, develop practice of social work and establish public opinion in this sphere.

The Project has two main objectives: I) development of the financial mechanism for financing of renovation of the Riga city culturally historic wooden architecture (in co-operation with the Riga City Council); II) establishment of urban environment development principles and their implementation on a local scale with active participation of local public.  The unique European level wooden construction of the beginning of 17^th, 18^th and 19^th century has been kept in a number of places in Riga, including Kalnciema Street. There is no other wooden architecture of such type remaining in Europe. The buildings on Kalnciema Street form a unique ensemble, which after renovation might serve both for the joy of Riga inhabitants, and as the visiting card of the Riga city for its guests. Klavins & Slaidins LAWIN is donating its services to this Project, and Sanda Lace is a member of the expert work group.
